Washington March 11 two administration agencies CPA and CPA restored funds in a Senate House appropriation conference. The conference grants full 1 500 000 as House earlier voted 1 854 000 while Senate cut to 1 400 000. includes urgent deficiency money for rest of fiscal year ending June 30. Mississippi.

Bedford Pa March 11 state police search for Philadelphia tax expert John L Votava 44 of Springfield Delaware County after his car was found on the Pennsylvania Turnpike five miles east of here. He checked out of a Pittsburgh hotel hours earlier and has not been heard from since Tuesday. The vehicle with keys in ignition was traced by registration. Mrs Votava said he was expected home today and planned to stop at Johnstown en route to Philadelphia. He works for six associates and is father of a six year old daughter.

In Pittsburgh on March 11 detective reports Oliver Mason a plain clothesman fatally shot James W Palmer aged 47 in a cafe after a gun battle with Sam Wilson Mason escaped serious injury after a graze wound and was treated in hospital Palmer had fired first prompting the exchange in the cafe scene Authorities provided the account of the deadly confrontation.
The Interstate Commerce Commission was asked to approve the merger of Pere Marquette Railway Co into the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway Co. The joint filing came from Chesapeake, Pere Marquette, and the Allegheny Corporation, which controls Chesapeake and Pere Marquette.
In Washington on March 11 Winston Churchill and General Dwight Eisenhower faced a scare in Williamsburg as two horses pulling an open coach bolted. The near-miss was blamed on photographers and excited crowds while Churchill calmly enjoyed the day, later attending an eight course dinner hosted by John D. Rockefeller II. Sun Oil Co launches a $4 million program to conserve natural gas with nine processing plants planned in Texas Louisiana and Michigan. James E. Pew says over 65 million cubic feet daily will be saved and waste flare gas of about 6 million cubic feet daily will be sold in Beaumont Texas area. Construction starts immediately with a $1 million natural gasoline and gas storage plant in South Texas and a $2 million gas cycling and natural gasoline plant in Septington Field. A Michigan pressure maintenance plant is planned and a Delhi Field natural gasoline plant in Louisiana is being developed.
Erie police and FBI officials arranged for two suspects to be extradited from Savannah to Erie. Michael Bubna and Dominic Domine are charged with murder in connection with the death of Robert Fisher, a Navy veteran, whose body was found near Erie. Violet Tarbell, a material witness, is also being returned. details describe an internal motive and a local gang murder claim.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday for George McCully Laughlin director of Laughlin Steel Corp who died Saturday in his Lake Worth Florida winter home. Laughlin 74 grandson of James Laughlin partner in Jones and Laughlin Limited. He was elected vice president and director in 1923 and served as board chairman 1928 to 1936. Survivors include his wife Henrietta Speer Laughlin and two sons and two daughters.
Spencer Davis reports from Chungchun that Chinese sources say Soviet forces will require at least three years to restore Manchuria’s looted industrial base. Factories mills and mines were stripped, with power plants and transport disrupted as equipment was shipped toward the Soviet border and to Vladivostok.
In Sarasota in March a coroner's jury probed the deaths of two Nokomis fishermen after a pilotless Gulf craft drifted ashore at Treasure Island. Nellie Lanius told of a premonitory dream prompting her to travel, but the inquest returned death by unknown causes, likely carbon monoxide from the engine pit with no external injuries.
In Altoona on March 1 AP reports negotiations for selling the Pennsylvania Edison Co to the Pennsylvania Electric Co of Johnstown for 42 451 400. W H Wade Penn Edison executive said the firms would file joint applications for approval with the SEC in Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission in Harrisburg. If approved Penn Edison would become a division of Penn Electric's System.
A cow named Bossy escaped from Paul Leonbruno’s fence and wandered through Whitehall in a bold trek toward the railroad yards and the blacksmith shop where he works. She reached the shop just as plans for accompanying him home began to form.
