William A. Irvin, a former telegraph messenger from Indiana, was elected president of United States Steel Corporation and will assume the post April 19. At 68 last December, he has spent 36 years in the iron and steel industry, rising from subsidiary roles to become operating vice president before this promotion. He succeeds James A. Farrell, who retires after 1911 tenure.

Fire damages Blairsville foundryman’s home
A small blaze on East Brown Street Blairsville damaged weatherboarding on the frame house of Charles L. T. Smith, a Blairsville foundryman and fire captain. The total damage was about 150 dollars. A pedestrian spotted the fire at 7 20 a m and alerted firefighters who confined the blaze to the exterior after about 45 minutes with no interior damage. A Bible class at First United Presbyterian Church plans Thursday evening services to visit Albert Warren’s home.

Funeral services for Albert Ernest Warren 52 a longtime Indiana resident and Indiana Printing and Publishing Company employee will be held at 2 p m Saturday in the First United Presbyterian Church. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Warren born October 7 1878 in England came to the U S at age six and lived in Punxsutawney before moving to Indiana 26 years ago. He worked 14 years as a conductor for Indiana Street Railways Company and was assessor of the Third Ward. He married Maude Fiscus in 1905 and is survived by his widow a daughter Mrs Harold Williams a grandson Ronald Lee Williams five brothers and other relatives. The body will be at the church from 12 30 p m until services.
