Joseph Eb Weaver principal of Ernest Public Schools announces candidacy for Register and Recorder in the Republican Primary. He is finishing his 21st term in education and appears before the public for the first time asking voters to show support for his work.
Manager Carnahan reports telegram canceling the feature film Billy Sunday to be rescheduled in the fall. Wilmer Stewart is buying horses near Clarksburg today. Ivand Tonight, Azydora, and Ranyan’s Taxi are noted in local items.
The Dormitory team beat the Lawyers by 19 pins and the Bankers defeated the Independents by 68 points at the YMCA Bowling Contest Monday evening. Scoring lists Hutchins 10182 and others show totals for Dormitory 868, Lawyers 839, Bankers 885, Independents 817.
Mrs. Joshua T. Stewart is confined at home with a serious typhoid attack on Philadelphia street. William George Rig, son of Karl Rigg, recovers from scarlet fever after attending a matinee of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Other families on South Fifth and Sixth streets report varying fevers. Frank Duncan welcomes a new son. Grippe affects multiple residents including E A Pennington, Frank Moorhead, Prof F Ernest Work, E C Buchheit, and Beatrice Fleming of Grant street.
The German Foreign Office sent an expression of regret through James W. Gerard to Henry Van Dyke. The Erklärung attributes the incident to no misunderstanding by Treves military commandant and says orders were issued to prevent a recurrence. The note comes from The Hague on March 9.
William N. Liggett reports a letter from Joseph Kalbfus saying 14 White Tail deer are being shipped from Massachusetts to the Indiana County Wild Life League. A telegram will announce arrival timing, but New Jersey’s hoof stock quarantine casts doubt on the plan. Deer likely to be released near TwoLick and Yellow Creek regions.
Walter L. Mc Junkin assistant cashier of the Clearfield National Bank died in his hotel room in Clearfield after shooting himself with a 82 caliber pistol last night. Friends reported severe head pain and a phone call describing his distress. The body was found under bed covers with the pistol in his grasp, though bank accounts were reported in perfect order.
Pittsburgh March 10. University of Pittsburgh freshmen missed their pictures as sophomores gathered around Thaw Hall and released aged eggs and vegetables at the photographer. The surprise spoiled spring suits, while the scene drew comparisons to chaotic events and a disrupted photo morning.

At 10 o'clock this morning John Lt. Getty, defense attorney, began addresses in the Conmonworth vs Clyde Carney case charged with assault with intent to kill and robbery. Carney allegedly fired at Mrs Shilling during a failed attempted robbery near Wintondale. she identified him later at the county jail. The trial featured circumstantial testimony and a rebuttal by Samuel Cunningham. jurors were to deliberate about 3 o'clock after the verdict of not guilty in a prior case was returned.
The March meeting of the Indiana County Medical Society convened at the YMCA auditorium with many physicians and some druggists in attendance. Dr. W. B. Ansley of Saltsburg led a session devoted to the new opium and cocaine law, followed by a general discussion among attendees.
Greensburg March 9 Through a prisoner confession the State Police claim two men were responsible for the November 15 1914 dynamiting of Nash Pinizzi home at Superior that killed six people including three of Pinizzi’s children. John McBurney alias John Kelly arrested in Youngstown February 18 admitted complicity and implicated Joseph Sheets, arrested yesterday at Superior.
Ernest resident Dominick McCustis suffered probable fatal injuries at the Ernest mine when crushed between a motor and the wall late yesterday afternoon. Authorities described the accident as a mining fatality pending further investigation.

Indiana Borough’s 1916 tax levy is set at 10 mills for General Fund and 6 mills for Sinking Funds. Sinking Funds allocations include fractions for interest and redemption of Bonds Series A through F, with portions adjusted to meet specified totals. Neighboring residents Mrs. Arthur W. Fisher and Miss Laura Wiggins recover from recent operations in Pittsburgh area hospitals.
At the Western Pennsylvania Postmasters Association meeting in Greensburg on Tuesday the group set the next convention for Charleroi on April 13. Postmaster John M. A surprise shower honored Miss Della For shua of North Ninth Street ahead of her wedding to Mr. Ross Ambler of Alliance Ohio. The Laurus Club hosted the event at Miss Isabel King’s Chestnut street home with a playful “The Bride's Washing” delivery at the door. Miss For shua works in attorney William N. Liggett’s office while Ambler serves as a foreman at McCaffrey Cash Register Co. in Alliance.

The Gazette confirms a $1600 modern Xray unit will be donated to Indiana County General Hospital by C. O. Iselin, with installation soon after delivery. Mrs. Kane, sister of Mrs. Iselin, will present a motor ambulance, bound to match other new hospital equipment, reflecting her interest in the institution.
