Fifi previously shared a cage with Bobo who died after a period of illness.
Dr Buff, Charleston physician for 40 years, spoke at Indiana University of Pennsylvania coal mining seminar urging miners with 20 years in mines to seek compensation. He equated silicosis with black lung, warned of industry harassment, praised Pennsylvania laws, and outlined an eight X-ray program to determine eligibility. The session included a Q and A and resumes today with Msgr Charles Owen Rice speaking at 8 p.m. at the Student Union.
A skunk invaded a portable classroom at Pinedale Elementary in Casper Wyoming. The odor forced evacuation and students moved to the library while workers tried to remove the animal.
John Midock has been elected and installed as president of Indiana Local 2121 AFSCME representing workers of the Indiana Department of Transportation Maintenance District LO 1. Also elected were Eugene Eisenberg as vice president Deb Montgomery secretary Ken Greene treasurer with executive board members Bob Stitt Salone Gipson and Bill Salsgiver and trustees Mervin Baum Bob Stewart and Glen Weiss. Bud Moore installed the officers and James Myers attended.
An explosion in a Roman Catholic area of Belfast destroyed a four room house. Police say a gelignite bomb set by IRA members caused the blast. Three killed, four injured as security forces sealed the Lower Falls area. Protests by Protestant workers call for a four hour strike and power cut to protest government concessions to Catholics. William Hull of the Loyalist Association of Workers warns of a general halt. Estimated 4,000 to 5,000 workers may halt power plants 1 to 5 pm.

In Detroit, a Wayne County sheriff's deputy was killed and three others injured when Detroit police, entering a West Side apartment during a card game, opened fire after a confrontation with off-duty deputies. STRESS officers had followed a man they suspected of carrying a gun into the building. More than 30 shots were fired, with conflicting initial reports on what sparked the exchange.
FBI witness Boyd Douglas testifies that Philip Berrigan expressed pessimism about the plan to kidnap Henry Kissinger as a protest tactic. Douglas, a former inmate and alleged insider, claims Berrigan did not oppose kidnapping but was uncertain, amid a broader conspiracy case involving six codefendants. The defense questions Douglas’s credibility, arguing he was planted to entrap antiwar activists.
The Indiana County Grand Jury dismissed seven cases from further court action on the final review days. Dismissed defendants include William H. Claycomb and Robert J. Kesnowski Jr. for driving while intoxicated, William Wheeler for obstructing an officer, Ronald Hankinson for acceptance of band money, and several residents from Plumville for assault and battery. The panel also listed cases approved for further action, including Richard Lee Shupe and others for armed robbery, larceny, false pretense, and assault. No action was taken on several cases, while Richard Krynak’s morals charge was continued. Today the Grand Jury inspected county properties.
The House voted 272 to 139 to instruct its 20 conference committee members to stick to hard guidelines on curbing school busing. The Senate passed milder legislation, setting up a clash likely to prolong the debate as conference begins in about a week alongside President Nixon’s plans on busing. Nixon opposes court-ordered busing for racial balance but has not disclosed a plan. The amendments are attached to a $24 billion higher education bill.

The interdisciplinary session aims to address children's reading problems with educators and specialists invited. refreshments will be served.
Fairfield PA officials said Charnita Inc sold 45 acres in Maryland to the Soviet government for a pleasure retreat for embassy staff. The State Department confirmed the sale with no objections. The Soviet Embassy paid $1 million for the tract near Centerville, Md, including two furnished mansions once part of the J J Raskob estate.
A Vintondale motorist, James C. Youngdahl, 36, of Wintondale RD 1, escaped serious injury after a two car collision on Route 403 south of Cramer at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday. He received minor treatment at Johnstown’s Lee Hospital. Elizabeth J. Swanger, 34, of Johnstown, lost control and struck Youngdahl’s car, which then plunged down a 20 foot hillside and hit a tree. Total damage listed at 2800 dollars. Swanger uninjured.
