Edna McGatn Shields wife of Clarence Shields of Creekside died after a pneumonia illness in Indiané Hospital. Born April 16 1891 in Chambersville she taught in Indiana County and was active in Center Presbyterian Creekside Civic Club and Home WCTU. Surviving husband two children a mother two brothers a sister and grandchildren. Funeral Thursday 1:30 pm at her residence. Greenwood Cemetery Indiana.

Highway Deaths in January Record High Toll
Harrisburg March 9. Sudden highway deaths totaled 303 in Pennsylvania in January with 6,084 injured, the highest toll in state history. The revenue department reported 6,387 accidents, nearly twice January 1996. Drivers involved numbered 10,003, most with over a year’s experience. Two thirds were sober and alert. 6,254 were within the law. Half the crashes occurred on dry roads in clear weather. Most vehicles were in good mechanical condition.
