Jeannette Pa March 9 The Pennsylvania Rubber Company's plant prepared to resume operations ending a two day strike by 870 workers. Vice President A C Bowers and a union committee led by Charles Seria reported an amicable settlement though terms were not disclosed. A minimum wage pledge was promised. Workers had demanded 30 percent raise a six day week and union dues check off. The company warned of permanent closure if the walkout continued.

Direct Relief Load Is Cut Continued From Page One
Direct relief activity shows some improvement in private employment relations to relief road changes. In February the weekly average of openings remained twice the weekly closures due to absorption in industry. For the week ending February 20, 6,144 of 10,508 relief closures were due to WPA and federal projects. The total direct relief cases transferred to the Works Program stood at 246,866 as the month ended. Of 2,256 relief cases open, about 6,470 had lost private jobs. The week included 2,621 households never on relief before. Expenditures for direct relief grants statewide reached 1,421,833.03, down 108,398.37 from the prior week amid fewer rent, clothing, and milk orders late in the month.
