Mass X Ray Screenings End As Health Officials Act

Pennsylvania bans mass X ray screenings sponsored by local lung groups. The Environmental Quality Board voted 11-1 on Feb. 19 to require a doctor's prescription for X rays, phasing out six holdout organizations in Harrisburg Lewistown Somerset Johnstown Altoona and Washington. Public health officials say the practice poses unnecessary radiation risk and has fallen from favor since early 1970s warnings.

ATLANTA four AP reports Atlantans celebrated the end of dry Sundays the first Sabbath under the new liquor law. Bloody Marys martinis and beer appeared in venues and new rules allow certain restaurants to serve liquor after 12 30 p m while stores stay closed.
