The borough engineer, Thomas Penter, prepared estimates totaling about 45 000 for labor and 1 600 for materials. McCormick approved the request and sent it to Harrisburg for state approval. completion would require about 75 men for eight weeks.

In Greensburg Pennsylvania on March 8 twelve people fled for their lives as a fire gutted the Royal Tavern Beer Garden a two story frame structure.
