Andrew Mock of Indiana was named Homer City borough manager by the Homer City Borough Council. He will assume duties April 1 and will replace three retiring officials, with their duties folded into the new manager role. A water plant review showed needed improvements and water contract discussions with Rochester and Pittsburgh Coal Co and the Royal Chick Co were tabled until August. Fire at Doughin Brothers Lumber Yard in Vandergrift
A lightning sparked blaze at Doughin Brothers lumber yard destroyed a two story shop building. Officials estimate damage between 80000 and 100000 dollars. The shop housed wood working and finishing equipment. Fire started on the roof about 530 am and four fire companies fought the three hour fire.

Seward Boy Wounded In Accidental Rifle Fire
A 13 year old Seward boy, Richard Eugene Potts, lies in critical condition at Lee Hospital after a .22 caliber slug lodged in the base of his skull from an accidental rifle discharge. Thomas Potts, 16, says he had the rifle under his arm when it fired while walking along a railroad track with Raymond Beni. the brothers and a companion were present. Both boys are sons of Mr and Mrs George Potts of Seward and the incident occurred near Seward. Richard underwent surgery for removal of the bullet.
