Spencer Williams of the American Russian Chamber of Commerce said in a broadcast interview that the Russian standard of living has declined about 33 percent in the past six months and that Moscow’s food supply is worse than at any time since the 1933 famine. He spoke after returning to the United States following ten years in Russia.

In Stoystown on March 6 four men were entombed for five hours after a 20 foot rockfall blocked their mine. Neighbors dug through rock while mine inspector F W Cunningham advised against further digging. Entombed 150 feet from the hillside entrance, the men kept warm by singing and digging until rescue.
London March 6 Colonel Kermit Roosevelt met the volunteers who will join the Finnish front at the recruiting office of the international brigade. He described the group as a fine looking lot and noted recruits arriving at about a hundred daily. Officials say about twelve Americans are among five thousand volunteers, mostly from London.
