Middle Income Burden Doubles in Tax Rise Since 1950s
Washington AP reports a government study showing middle income American families paid 11.8 percent of taxes in 1958 rising to 23.4 percent by 1974 with higher burdens on wealthier households too. It notes public salaries outpacing private pay and Social Security growing to 76 billion in 1974, broadening state and local taxes.
