The Turbine, built by Hon C A Parsons in Newcastle, was the first steam turbine fitted vessel. Turbinia, a small 400 foot craft, made its trial on November 4, 1894, and its turbine propulsion spurred speed gains and economic benefits. The turbine ship soon gained global popularity.
