Herman C Smith son of Mr and Mrs Herman Smith of East Church street and Miss Mable M Kunkle daughter of Constable and Mrs W A Kunkle of Creekside were quietly united in marriage yesterday afternoon by Rev James A Beaton at the Christian Parsonage on East Water street. The couple will reside in Indiana where Mr Smith is in the barber business.
In Uniontown Pennsylvania more than 3,000 unsecured creditors of Josiah V. Thompson, once a coal and coke magnate, gathered at the courthouse to review the agreement by Great Northern interests of St Paul to acquire Thompson claims totaling 13 million dollars for 5 million and to discuss conditions of the Thompson estate.
Denver June 30 under the Reed rider to the Post Office bill Colorado joined the bone dry states banning beverage liquor shipments. Federal law punishes those who ship intoxicants for beverage use while medical sacramental or scientific imports are allowed. Colorado permits import up to two quarts whiskey six quarts wine or twenty four quarts beer per person under twenty one daily. United States District Attorney Harry B. Tedrow warned prosecutions for beverage shipments into Colorado.
Madison Wisconsin June 27 State Dairy and Food Commissioner George J Weigle urged the State Barbers Board to end egg shampooing during the war He said thousands of fresh eggs are diverted from the food supply daily and asked action to discourage the practice
Philadelphia dispatch reports Captain Richard H Williams of the Coast Artillery Corps warns Pennsylvanians are not applying for the second officers training camp at expected rates. Area No 4 includes most of Pennsylvania with 988 slots, but only about 350 applications are in. Examinations begin soon after July 15, 1920, urging prompt filings.
Boston reports the sinking of the British steamer Miami under Cunard charter amid other transport losses. Also noted is the 11,000 ton American liner Haverford sunk, the largest American vessel lost since the war began. Mrs. F. W. Fabian, formerly Martha Gilchrist, has returned to Past Lansing, Michigan.
Funeral services for Dr James A Haven a leading physician and businessman in Jefferson County were held at his Brookville home with Mason lodge handling the service. He was born June 21 1864 in Summerville married Lila Carrie had two children one of whom died in infancy survived by wife daughter Hilda and three siblings. He belonged to Jefferson County Medical Society Masonry I O O F and First M E Church.
Boston report states four large British cargo steamers have been torpedoed and sunk in a single action. The vessels named are The Altonia of Cunard 6598 tons The Haverford of American 7498 tons The Buffalo Wilson liner 2583 tons and the Manistee Cunard vessel. No crew fate details were provided.

Riverhead L I reports June 28 that Mike Rotrinski of Easthampton tried boiling $480 from a savings bank to double it. He witnessed a friend place the cash in a large pot and, upon return, found only ordinary savings money remaining, prompting an investigation and caution against the dubious claim.
