In a rapid offensive, Allied guns bombard Iranian positions as they seek to pressure western and southern fronts. The onslaught yields limited gains amid intensified shelling and concentrated bombardment.
War dispatches report predominant artillery use on the front. Allied guns fire back gun for gun as French and British forces make minor advances and prisoners are taken on the Flanders and Ne fronts. German attempts near Chateau Thierry with gas shells are repelled. Germans appear to dig in after gains on the southern battle line.
Selection Boards 1 and 2 ordered by Provost General Crowder to investigate registrants with deferred classifications. The effort targets idle registrants and covers ranks, occupations, and deceptive activities like bucket shops and fortune tellers. Public urged to notify boards of any registrant idle by choice under the deferred class.
A fragmentary page note highlights Douglas Fairbanks in a rare comedy sketch titled The Modern Musketeer. Sly humor and theatrical gags unfold as Ferguson and others push the action, with Fairbanks delivering the central spoof on heroics and Fords.
Federal food officials urge drastic sugar conservation due to reduced Atlantic trade and submarine activity. Immediate regulations limit sales to two pounds to urban shoppers and five pounds to rural residents, with up to twenty five pounds on certificates for home canning. Raymond Kirkwood of Arcadia Budd Houck of Purchase Line and Daniel Gray Davis of Creekside left by train for Lafayette College Faston Pa Carnegie Institute of Technology Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh to study electrical work. All were inducted or called for General or Limited Military Service and arranged with the Spruce Production Division of the Aeronautics Department.
Sunday afternoon June 16 at 5 o clock the Mission Sunday School will host its annual Children’s Day exercises in the First Presbyterian Church auditorium courtesy of the Session. The program features a pigram and the unveiling of a Service Medal for 12 scholars now in service. Miss Hulda Stumps, a returned missionary, will speak. Public invitation extends to all.

The Commonwealth case against Curato and Tony Bufano for the murder of State Trooper Crap saw jurors not returning a verdict by 1 PM Friday after a noon special centire and testimony from Capt. Price of the State Police. He linked items found in the Johnstown room to the crime, asserting the revolver matched the fatal bullet.
Mrs Anna Weaver entertained the Helping Hand Class at her South Seventh Street home after a business meeting. Refreshments followed and a social hour with music by Vada and Martha Weaver brought the event to a pleasant close.
County wide Red Cross committee seeks volunteer auto service to transport speakers to meetings. People willing to offer rides should leave word at the Chapter House or with Anna F E Laughlin. The committee appreciates such offers.
Forty five friends and neighbors of J S Lewis who runs a bachelor hall in White township gathered at his home Friday evening for a social time. Following merriment, refreshments of ice cream, cake and coffee were served.

Local lodge arranged fitting observance of flag day. Patriotic service on the normal campus highlights the community ceremony honoring the flag and its meaning.
Indiana Tadge of Benevolent and Protective Elks led a Stars and Stripes celebration on Normal Campus Friday evening. Members marched with Boy Scouts and the Clymer Cornet Band as "Star Spangled Banner" and "Over There" filled the program. George J. Leitread the Flag Record while M H Gattshal spoke on patriotism replacing Beideman.
A marriage of much interest occurred at Zion Lutheran Parsonage on Sixth Street. Rev. E M Gearhart united J Ephraim Mchthoes of Kellysburg and Lulu Carolyn Rankin of Homer City in wedlock. They departed on the 3:52 train for an eastern wedding trip and plan to reside in Kellysburg afterward.
Owing to the Food Administration cancelling 10 000 bushels of Spring Wheat we are out of Spring Wheat Flour and have no Tidal Wage Flour. We have ground our allotment but can only grind 50 percent. Winter Wheat comes from farmers wagons but a new allotment is expected July first. We are not grinding presently to install machinery and repair, mill will restart June 24 running day and night. We will print Winter Wheat flour for farmers local trade and for the Food Administration with unfilled orders totaling 700 barrels. D F Rinn offers the invocation and Rev FE Gearhart conducts the prayer. The program includes songs and recitations. Evening concert led by Mary Wright features organist Mrs W H Jackson and helpers. Excerpts from The Holy City performed. Sunday School at usual hour with Jesus on the Cross lesson. Junior C I meets at 2 PM on Lessons from the Sun and Rain. Christian Harvest Day at 6 30 PM on Co operation with the Sunday School. First Presbyterian Church will have Rev Joseph Hy Bausman D D of Washington Penn preach at both services.
