Aliens Arrested in U S War Monitor

Washington reports two hundred aliens described as enemies of the United States including Germans have been arrested since the declaration of war. Detainees were moved quietly to detention sites, with many arrested from ongoing census investigations. In Chicago, seventy five men were arrested for failing to register on June 5. In New York, Louis Kramer, an anarchist, was sentenced to two years in Atlanta prison and fined ten thousand dollars for conspiracy to distribute anti conscription literature, plus a year for failing to register. Morris Becker received one year and eight months on conspiracy charges. Herman Levins faced eleven months and twenty nine days for not registering under the selective act.

Liberty Loan oversubscription eyed as two billion goal nears

Officials report strong progress with Liberty Loan subscriptions led by Bethlehem Steel employees and diverse cities.
