Home Burns After Stove Explosion in Glen Campbell
A stove explosion destroyed a seven-room home in Glen Campbell yesterday morning. Mrs. Richard Smith and her three-year-old son Bobby escaped unharmed as flames engulfed the kitchen. Mr. Smith and the couple’s five-year-old son Gerry were away. Firefighters called for aid from nearby towns but prevented spread to adjacent homes. The dwelling, owned by Miss Ruth R. Black, was lost with all furnishings. No damage estimate is available.

Enrollment Hits Peak in Indiana Public Schools

Robert Holmes told the American Medical Association that a chest and belly vest of compressed fiberglass and nylon has been under test by Marines and the Army for protection against small arms and shell fragments. Auto Crashes Into Train at Church Street Intersection
William Peddicord, of 187 South Second Street, Indiana, drove west on Church Street at about 20 mph and did not see an approaching Baltimore and Ohio train backing across the street. The collision at 3:05 a.m. left his car damaged $275 and his right knee injured. No one else was hurt and the train had no damage. Police officer Harry A. Owens witnessed Peddicord’s account. The car skidded into a tank truck before rebounding.

Owens Quits Post As Health Officer
Sgt Harry Owens of the Indiana Borough Police Department in Blairsville resigned as health officer for the municipal pool that opened Monday with 262 visitors. The Board of Health accepted the resignation, to be effective until September 1, and will fill the vacancy soon with approval from the town council.
