Eight traffic mishaps in area reported in one day
Shelocta resident James Wendell Carnahan, 40, was struck by a car at 8 p.m. on old Route 422 in Shelocta and remains in fair condition at Indiana Hospital. Wider South Penn Street Bridge Planned at Punxsutawney
Jefferson County engineer James McKee told Punxsutawney Borough Council the new bridge would be widened from 18 feet 9 inches to 24 feet. The plan calls for a different design with the northern end lower and includes study of an alley from Harmon Field to South Penn Street near the site. The county board approved a replacement bridge due to the current structure's poor condition and five ton limit.

Rabbi Tells Those At Funeral of Brudno Suicide
Former POW and Air Force captain Edward A Brudno ended his life six days earlier. Rabbi David J Jacobs spoke at his funeral in Quincy noting his years in captivity and struggle with changes back home. Brudno had been shot down over North Vietnam in 1965 and released last February. He had been under psychiatric care and left behind a wife who grew strong, yet he could not meet his dreams. The service described his battle with guilt and perfection as he sought to live up to a hoped for future. Earlier, Harrison New York authorities found his body consuming barbiturates. He was a Quincy native and had memorized a love poem for his wife during captivity. In another item, the same report notes a school board meeting set for June 11. Marion Center police are probing a burglary of a summer home trailer, with a camera stolen and two doors and a porch damaged. The owner is Ida M Carbaugh of McKeesport. The burglary is believed to have occurred between June 3 and 8.
