Hurricanes and Tornadoes Strike Across States With Casualties

Severe storms hit Oklahoma, Kansas, and Florida with tornadoes killing at least 13 in Kansas and two in Florida, injuring hundreds and leaving thousands homeless. Topeka, Manhattan, and nearby towns suffered heavy damage while weather cooled into late week with near freezing readings in Michigan and generally mild elsewhere. Reports note hail from Texas to Oklahoma and Kansas, plus destruction along the Elkhorn River in Nebraska.

Homer City Man In Viet Nam

Homer City native 2d Lt. James R. Harvey, wife Barbara of Springdale Pa., serves in Vietnam with the 64th Quartermaster Battalion as a quality surveillance officer. A June 1965 Army entrant, he previously was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. He is 22, son of James E. and Mrs. James E. Harvey of Homer City, a 1981 Laura Lamar High School and 1965 Indiana University of Pennsylvania ROTC graduate and Sigma Tau Gamma member.

Dayton university awards Kennedy memorial scholarships

Officials said the value of the three Kennedy memorial scholarships is based on students' need relative to expenses at the university. Recipients include Robert J. Bush of Euclid Johnstown Pa and Marilyn F. of Dayton Ohio.
