Inquest Called In Girl Slaying By Patrolman
Nesquehoning June 7 A coroner jury was convened to examine the fatal shooting of Joan Stevens a 17 year old seventh grade student. Corporal Benjamin Franklin 33 of the Lehigh barracks is jailed on homicide charges in the line of duty. Authorities say the girl drew a pistol during questioning about a bank robbery plot and shouted I will blow your heads off. Franklin fired about four shots into her chest. Private Edward Switaj was present. The shooting occurred in a police car after the girl met officials to discuss a bank hold up in the anthracite region. Her mother mourns the loss as the investigation continues.
