Mine Safety Probe Ordered By Earle In Pittston Blast

Harrisburg moves to investigate the Pittston mine disaster as Governor Earle forms a three member commission to study safety rules in Pennsylvania's anthracite fields. Senate Deficiency Bill Hearings Begin in Subcommittee

Chairman Adams of California opened a Senate appropriations subcommittee info session to start hearings on the final deficiency appropriations bill, still pending in the House. Negotiations on the three point seven trillion dollar bill were delayed as conferees worked on deficiencies, but Adams predicts a quick accord on the major legislation and a broad monopoly investigation during the congressional recess.

Mrs. Milés Organ aged 53 died Sunday morning at Adrian Hospital Punxsutawney after a four month illness. Born June 20 1884 near Rossiter she was married 28 years ago. House approves 35.8 million for start of naval expansion

The House Appropriations Committee sanctioned 35,802,000 to begin a billion dollar naval expansion as part of a 272,516,979 omnibus bill. It funds 19 ships including two 85,000 ton battleships and eight experimental vessels with an initial 16,960,000 for ship costs, plus 19,752,000 for Navy yard improvements and a 2,000,000 Puget Sound drydock.
