In Pittsburgh AP reports a Allegheny County judge’s decision not to fine U S Steel Corp for alleged violations of cleanup decrees at Clairton Coke Works may be appealed by the United Steelworkers Union. The ruling followed a suit by county and state air pollution agencies. In Saltsburg Conemaugh supervisors lease a tractor with front loader from Cambria Tractor & Equipment Co for 5 000 every six months for a year and may buy at year’s end for 17 500.

PL Board Hits Roadblock In Path To New Buildings

The Commodore district school board failed on a split vote to pass a resolution authorizing submission of an elementary school building project to the state for approval. Superintendent Ellwood Warner cited past, present and future district finances in the required report. The board also accepted resignations of head coach and staff, granted admin raises, debated budget cuts, appointed census-takers, and set June 28 for a budget meeting.

Employees pledge $22,000 for Punxsutawney hospital drive

More than 200 Adrian Hospital workers, representing the entire staff, pledged over $22,000 to the New Dimensions Hospital Building Campaign in Punxsutawney. Campaign officials hope to award construction bids this fall for a project aiming to finish by 1976, with weeks left to boost volunteer efforts.

Eastland Mall Fire Ravages North Versailles Shops

In McKeesport Pennsylvania the Eastland Shopping Mall suffered a major fire early today damaging at least 22 stores. Fire officials say the fire likely started in a shoe store on the lower level of the two level mall and spread rapidly. No injuries were reported as firemen from 14 communities fought the blaze for over an hour before bringing it under control.

Punxsutawney and Sykesville Men Named to County Health Board

Jefferson County Comprehensive Health Planning Council appointed Punxsutawney resident Alton Anibaldi and Sykesville’s James Ashcroft to its board of directors at a Jefferson High Rise meeting in Punxsutawney. Dr. Paul Johnson read a letter from the State Health Department urging strong regional EMS planning. David Petrow of Brookville presented a long term care report as the council coordinates local health services.

Blacklick Honors Four Teachers, Business Leader

Nanty Glo area district honors five retirees for a combined 145 years of service. Recipients are Mary P. Blackman, Margery Hoffman, Mildred Yingling, Rhea Taylor, and Katherine Trombley. Blackman spent 40 years in the district. Hoffman 14 in the area and 174 years total. Yingling 31 years. Taylor joined in 1948 after Brockway, DuBois, and Washington, D.C. posts. Trombley has 33 years with the district.

Cambria Jury Indicts Three Area Persons

Cambria County grand jury indicted forty persons yesterday including three locals. Daniel McCall of Barnesboro faces contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge, Steven Douglas Reinoehl of Heilwood charged with driving while intoxicated, and Stanley William Kania Jr. of Nanty Glo indicted for unlawful entry and burglary.
