Bill Would Ban Hiring Relatives in State Agencies

HARRISBURG AP The House approved a bill 146 to 29 to bar public officials with hiring power from employing relatives in their own agency or any agency they control. The measure covers all three branches and most subdivisions, listing relatives banned from mothers to nephews, inlaws, and step relations. It does not state actions for relatives already on payrolls.

County officials approve self financed life insurance policy

Blaze Kills Mother and Five Children in North Side Fire

A three story frame house blaze in Pittsburgh's North Side killed Sandra Hendricks 32 and her five children Crystal 10 Donna 8 Allen Jr 5 Lucille 5 and Olivia 3. Husband Allen Hendricks 47 escaped with serious injuries and was listed in satisfactory condition.

Investigating Blasting Caps Found At Marion Center Speedway

State police continued inquiry after blasting caps were found Monday at the Marion Center Speedway off Route 119. Dynamite caps were wired into a flagman’s stand switch panel and the track lights fuse box. A U.S. Army bomb disposal unit removed the caps. Police declined to link the incident to the previous episode when lights were disconnected during a stock car race crowd.

Nixon to tour Middle East in broad diplomatic drive

President Nixon plans the most extensive Middle East tour by a U.S. president starting next Monday.
