East German aided by dog sparks border escape

A 1-year-old East German mechanic and his dog crossed the Iron Curtain into West Germany after the guards spotted him as he attempted to crawl through barbed wire entanglements north of a Bavarian town. The dog attacked the guards to aid the escape, injuring one, then guided the dogged escapee across the border.

Eruptions Rock Oklahoma Farm Near Gas Wells

In Nash Oklahoma a 0-acre farm tract turned into a quagmire after eruptions, threatening cattle. Neil Wilkins reported a cow death and a vet said it was gas related. Ground turned to quicksand with craters filling with water, near several gas wells.
