Three Beaten at Somerset

Pittsburgh attorney John R. Frazkel said three men were beaten last night in Somerset while serving papers for a Federal Court injunction on Pennsylvania's 85 million dollar Harrisburg to Pittsburgh super highway. Ross Adams of Pittsburgh was kicked. an X ray was planned. The other two victims were identified only as a young man and a constable. No formal complaint yet.

First Thetis Escapee Recounts Sinking Rescue Drama

London reports Captain H P K Oram led the first escape from the sunken Thetis using a Davis lung. Four men total escaped as divers struggled for air and to pump fresh oxygen, while questions grew over why faster action and a diving bell were not used.

Baby Kidnapper Held For Court In Philadelphia

Eighteen-year-old Beatrice Wood was held without bail on an abduction charge after confessing she took five month old Gerald McCrean from his cottage while the mother shopped. The baby was later returned unharmed to his parents as detectives searched for her claimed sweetheart, Frederick Bauers.

Compensation payments rise in Pennsylvania week ending May 26

Harrisburg June 3 1 1/2 percent Lew 8 G Hines secretary of labor and industry reported today that disbursements of unemployment compensation continued to rise in the week ending May 26 Some 155000 checks amounting to nearly 1850000 were distributed. Westminster to Honor Mack at 85th Commencement

Five honorary degrees will be awarded at Westminster College’s 85th commencement on Monday June 5. John S Mack owner of a McKeesport based chain Murphy Stores Inc will receive a doctor of humane letters. Mack has led Murphy Stores since 1911 and oversees 202 units in the East. Coroner reports 19 year old Charles Yeager was found hanged in his Erie home. He was described as despondent over unemployment.
