Oil depletion allowance faces serious attack this summer

The 27 44 per cent oil depletion allowance, long a entrenched tax provision, faces a serious push to cut the rate in Congress. The House Ways and Means Committee may scale down the rate in tax reform, with administration officials signaling possible reductions though the Nixon administration opposed broad cuts. The study for the prior administration questioned depletion as a strong incentive for exploration, while supporters warn of higher foreign oil dependence and job losses if it is removed.

High Speed Train Links Airport City

New York officials discuss a $46.5 million plan to connect JFK via a two story train station 16 minutes from the airport. The project would allow air passengers to check or pick up luggage at the station. The plan is under construction with parts of the route near the city.

Metro- area reports a high-speed two car wreck outside Anderson near a planned terminal. Phoebe Rowles of Pittsburgh died in the crash while en route to Pennsylvania Station aboard the MTA officials say a Chicago woman was a passenger in a car involved in the incident.
