Eichmann Executed After Israeli Court Upholds Death

Adolf Eichmann was hanged in Jerusalem after Israel’s Supreme Court rejected his appeal for clemency. He had been convicted of plotting the Holocaust and transporting Jews to extermination camps. The execution followed swift justice after his capture in Argentina.

Rockefeller to Speak at Spelman College Graduation

Albany AP reports Gov. Nelson A Rockefeller will give a commencement address Monday at Spelman College in Atlanta Georgia. He will then meet Republican party workers in the state famous for its Democratic lean. The national figures link to the school’s founder John D Rockefeller Sr.

Antique Car Owners Win Prizes In Tour

Five antique car owners were awarded prizes after last Sunday's Indiana County Christmas Tree Candelstick Tour. Roy Fleming presented to George Johnston Apollo 1927 Chrysler Roadster and Clair Lyle Punxsutawney 1930 Model A Ford Roadster. Other participants included Glen Stephens Bruin 1930 Model A, James Sutton Indiana 1920 Model T, and George Winebark Rochester Mills 1922 Buick Sedan, with many more entries listed. Fleming thanked owners and gas-deicer sponsors and said plans to enlarge next year’s tour.

Police Cite Drunken Arrest Hike in Pa. Four Months

Harrisburg(AP) Pennsylvania state police arrested 237 persons on drunken driving charges in the first four months of 1902, nearly doubling the prior year. Commissioner Frank G. McCartney attributed the rise to intoximeter tests, noting no crackdown. Intoximeters were legalized in 1961 and used since December. previously a doctor diagnosed intoxication.

Bomb Threat Arrest Follows Airline Incident

Walter D. Voelsch Jr. of Cranford New Jersey faces charges after allegedly uttering a bomb threat to airline stewardesses in Detroit. He claimed it was a latte joke but FBI questioned him and the airline searched the plane. Voelsch could face up to one year in jail and a $1000 fine for false information about an alleged attempt to blow up a jetliner.

Goodman Accepts Soviet Jam Session Invite in Moscow

Soviet composers invited Benny Goodman and his band to a public jazz jam in Moscow. Goodman accepted instantly during a noon meeting with Aram Khachaturian and others. He noted he would review their schedule and hopes to perform for a dance audience in a large Moscow hall while continuing a monthlong Soviet tour.

Headstrong Elephant Takes Night Out On Town In Paterson NJ

Norma the 34 ton elephant from Clyde Beaty-Cole Bros Circus tore loose in Paterson. Police and keepers chased her through streets as a sidewalk gave way and she backed into a narrow gap between a house and a garage. After a lumber-yard interlude she calmed and returned to the circus, but Nora earned the night off.

NYC Cab Stolen In Police Chase

Beatrice Miles, 40, a Black woman, stole a taxicab in East Harlem after the driver briefly left the vehicle. An 18 block pursuit followed as officers fired 18 shots to stop the cab and three police cars were rammed. The car crashed into a bridge railing. Miles was arrested on grand larceny and felonious assault charges after police freed her from the locked cab. She claimed someone was after her and sat reading a Bible at the station.
