Fragmented tale of bungled arrest and political whisper
A garbled 19th century vignette recounts a mayor ordering a gamekeeper and butcher to haul a madman named Legrand to a sanatorium. Mistaken identities lead to diversions, a governor misreads telegraphs, and a trio is detained, with an awkward exchange between Wrangel and Bismarck healing a rift. The text then drifts to Redwoods, Paris markets, and various oddities including Lord Kelvin and Chinrox commentary, ending with a reflective jab at genius and fame.
