Fireman William Joe Wolf on day off found a fire in the country and gave the alarm. He aided eight people to escape before the structure burned down. The home was destroyed.
James Alvin Long, 78, prominent Franklin Borough civic leader, died at Memorial Hospital at 9:35 a m Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 2 p m tomorrow at the Long home, with Rev Archie Lynn of First Brethren Church presiding. Interment in Hendrick's Cemetery, arranged by Carl B Davis, Conemaugh mortician. He had suffered a paralytic stroke Monday afternoon while working on his farm in Jackson Township and had been a patient at the Eighth Ward institution. He resided at 234 Main Street, Franklin, in winter and spent summers elsewhere.

Blacksburg VA Federal Reserve member Davis warns of danger from a priest dreamer and political charlatan inflaming the distressed.
Obituary items note the death of James A. Long age unknown in Indiana County. Surviving are his widow Mia Clara A. Long and daughter Frances Lawson of Franklin. Also listed are sister Mrs Jane Davis and six grandchildren. Other local deaths include John J McCracken of Wilgus Montgomery Township and Joseph Milliron of Indiana. Funeral plans follow.

Rebels held Zaragoza Seville Cordoba and Granada but government said insurgents were demoralized and lacking citizen support.

World War veterans and friends in Robbinsville North Carolina dedicated a 3840 acre virgin growth forest to Joyce Kilmer the poet of Trees. The forest near Robbinsville will be known as the Joyce Kilmer memorial forest. Kilmer died 18 years ago on French battlefields. President Roosevelt praised the tribute.

Beathen’s lawyers claim constitutional rights were violated at his guilty trial.
The Keystone Quartette of the Pennsylvania Railroad performed widely during the first half of the year, singing before 94 audiences totaling 42 375 across 44 cities. Members include G C Hartel J C Mainwaring A E Rodig W G Harshaw with pianist G C Hallman. The group has a 152 year combined service and has broadcast to the United States and Europe, debuting on television radio in 1930 and singing at Arlington Cemetery.
