Rumors swirl around Goebbels boasting of huge secret weapons and flying bombs that could cross the ocean. Military observers warn such devices may boost morale but offer little real military value as Britain braces for continued pressure and potential peace talks.
Gov. Thomas E. Dewey outlined a four year program to reorganize the federal government and end what he called New Deal warfare between federal and local authorities. He spoke at a press conference with Gov. Bricker and Rep. Eaton, emphasizing responsibility to the people and a temporary postwar leadership role.

ANKARA July 27 Delayed report says Bulgaria is negotiating with the Allies to exit the war. The talks occur alongside Turkish developments. A note mentions a Bengal practice describing a marriage tied to trees by thread, observed among low castes.
The 80th Division Veterans Association plans the 25th annual reunion in Philadelphia August 3 to 8 at the Hotel Normandie. Tanks, half tracks, and self propelled guns advance while pockets of resistance are cleared near St Lo and Caumont. Allied air support continues despite poor weather as British and Canadian units face a deadlocked eastern flank.
