Harrisburg July 28 The Senate appropriations committee reported an economy program reducing the Steedle general appropriation bill by 13 967 624 from two sessions figures. The total cut is 9 000 000 below the House first plan, with 5 000 000 restored from the Senate plan. Gov Pinchot opposed the cuts but is expected to approve the measures after a Tuesday conference. The package provides under 3 000 000 for direct relief and includes 2 800 000 for teachers retirement. further tax steps may block final passage.

State highway plan to build 26 miles in county this year
Samuel Lewis secretary of highways for Pennsylvania told a Gazette reporter at the Highway Department offices that 26.06 miles of low cost roads would be built in this county this year with work starting next week. He cited 24.54 miles of new roads and 1.52 miles of reclaimed highway costing about 6,000 dollars per mile and totaling over 180,000 dollars.
