Dolls Spark Official Protest Over Ike Dolls in Geneva
New York reports that President Eisenhower’s Geneva purchases for grandchildren triggered an official protest from the National Association of Doll Manufacturers. President Rosenstein says the U.S. industry is shocked by foreign dolls. He plans to send gifts of American dolls and notes some include drinking, wetting, crying, or nose blowing. A walking doll with a mink coat and a head that won’t come off, a talking doll reciting now I lay me down to sleep, and a remote controlled boy doll that walks and has lighted eyes are among the examples cited.
