RAF May Increase Assault On Rebels

House kills school aid bill amid antisegregation clash

The House voted 153 to 126 to kill the school aid bill after an antisegregation amendment by Rep. Wainwright failed 136 to 105. The measure would have funded 300 million dollars a year for five years to states for school construction and financing, with 50 50 state matching, plus 759 million in bonds and 150 million for financing agencies. Democratic and Republican backers said the bill is dead for a long time, citing opposition to federal aid and administrative concerns.

Westinghouse To Aid Belgium Nuclear Plant Plans

Westinghouse Electric International Co agreed to provide technical information on full scale atomic power plants to Belgium's largest electrical manufacturer Ateliers de Constructions Electriques de Charleroi. Three Nanty Glo firemen were slightly injured fighting a blaze that destroyed a two story frame business building, the Nedrich & Royal Confectionery and Book Store, forcing temporary telephone outages. Five-Story Wedding Collapse in Cairo Kills 63

A Cairo five story building collapsed during a wedding, killing 63 and injuring 32. Fatma the bride and Mansour Abdel Hamid were among the dead and injured. Police say the lower floors were over ten years old and a demolition order was ignored, with owner adding three stories. The Dab el Ahmar district witnessed many women and children among casualties.

Hammermill Strike Ends in Erie After 6 Weeks

ERIE PA. United Paper Makers Union Local 62 votes 834 to 104 to end a six week strike against Hammermill Paper Co. The two year contract grants a 12 cent an hour across the board raise retroactive to June 1 and adds a seventh paid holiday on December 24. The strike idled about 400 non striking Hammermill workers. full production resumes Monday.
