James C. Mars a pioneer balloonist and aviator who gave Emperor Hirohito his first airplane ride died at 68 in the National Military Home Hospital. Born 1876 in Grand Haven Michigan he soloed in balloons in 1892 and flew various craft including dirigibles kites and heavier-than-air aircraft. He aided Baldwins dirigible project and later circled the world in a light aircraft in 1906. He trained pilots in World War I era aviation and was honored with the White Cross by the Russian czar.

Dorothy Louise Reno aged 17 of Gypsys died Monday July 24 at 2 30 p m in Adrian Hospital after a month long illness. Born December 31 1926 she was the daughter of Andy and Anna Reno and a Glen Campbell High School graduate from class of 1944. Surviving are her parents and many siblings. Funeral Tuesday at St Michaels Church with Rev Walter Anuszkiewicz. burial in church cemetery. Friends may call at the Gypsy home.
London reports Adolf Hitler has effectively placed the Reich and occupied territories under a four man Nazi leadership. Goebbels will address the nation as Reichs commissar for total mobilization, while Hermann Goering orders defense and overhauls state administration to free manpower for the army and arms industry. Rumors say Himmler purged officers as the drive toward unified war effort intensifies.
