Becker Walks Last Mile in Tower Tragedy

Specator found the tower in shambles with blood and furniture wreckage. The woman lay at the base of a 20 foot slope, throat and wrists attacked. Becker, a glass factory worker, was arrested after time clock entries showed 9 o clock faulty. Doctors said Miss Bracken died about 9. Railroad workers noted light outage at 8 and return 45 minutes later. Becker was convicted despite denial. family offers 250 reward.

Wind and Rain Cause Damage Across Western Pennsylvania

Wind and rain uprooted trees and levelled power lines, paralyzing traffic in Greensburg, Allegheny County, and Sharpsburg. A tree struck a dwelling in Sharpsburg, power and phone service disrupted for hours, crowds sought shelter at a park service, and Titusville reported several thousand dollars in damage from heavy rains. Indiana County saw several downpours with minor damage.

Johnstown police captured James Gordon early today at a farm near Johnstown. Roy Penrod was nabbed Saturday near Salix. Philadelphia July 28 state senator Frank W Ruth chairing a legislative committee investigating Pennsylvania courts said a public hearing would justify the committee action in tapping the telephone wires of Louis W Wilgrade secretary to Mayor Davis Wilson. Wilson announced a candidacy for governor as the hearings were set for this week. Detective Captain George Richardson testified wires in a pole box behind Wilgrade s home were switched enabling conversations to be heard in a vacant nearby house. Edy Ely free on bail faces questions as the incident pushes Wilson into the governor race in 1938.

State Motor Police report two pedestrians struck by a car in Indiana County as a youth, Bobby, was unable to swerve to avoid them. He and a Blairsville man, T. H. Three Prisoners Still Fugitives From County Banks

Pittsburgh police Sunday night report three fugitives from Allegheny and Erie counties. Steve Mastermak, jailed five to 10 years for larceny in Allegheny County, and Frank Burke from Erie County, eight years for armed robbery. Guards were sent to banks in Carnegie, Oakdale, and Bridgeville after warnings the suspects would attempt a bank heist.
