Fire devastates stores in Ligonier business district
A large fire swept through Ligonier Pa destroying the Satrilla General Supply Store and a nearby gasoline station after an explosion. Six fire companies battled the blaze while surrounding buildings were threatened. Damage was estimated at 75 000 to 78 000 dollars. One family fled with a baby to safety. The cause was undetermined.

Brilhart Douses Rumor On Welfare Food Claims
Health officer W. W. Brilhart of South Fifth street debunked rumors about Welfare Association food distribution in Indiana County. He inspected the food room and found everything in first class condition. One bag of macaroni, toothpicks and matches given to a recipient wasn’t from the Welfare food room. Five Nassau County police officers were indicted for manslaughter and seven for second degree assault, with one named as accessory to a felony, in the July 15 death of Hyman Stark after he was beaten at Mineola police headquarters following an arrest for robbery and beating a detective’s mother. Frank Coy a middle aged Cherryhill Township resident is in critical condition at Indiana Hospital after a collision at Kens wood road and the Penn Run Heilwood highway around 9 am. He was alone in a Ford when Victor Frank of Barnesboro driving a Heilwood bound truck struck the car from the rear and pushed it over a small bank.
