Seek Cause of $250000 First Baptist Church Fire
Firemen probe the origins of a blaze that destroyed the 74 year old First Baptist Church at Oakland Ave and Ninth St in Indiana. Damage preliminarily estimated at over 250000. Fire started in the sanctuary at 1246 am. firefighters gained control within an hour and prevented spread to the parsonage and education building. Groundbreaking Rescheduled For Coal Gas Plant
The federal government and the coal and gas industries reschedule the groundbreaking for a pilot coal gasification plant near Homer City to July 27 at 11 a.m. Secretary Rogers Morton will lead remarks with John P. Saylor and Maurice K. Goddard among others. The 36 acre site is donated by Indiana County Development Corporation and the project costs about 19 million dollars, funded two thirds by the federal government and one third by the American Gas Association. Construction runs 18 to 24 months with ten years of operation funded by both sectors, as part of a broader Office of Coal Research and American Gas Association effort to augment natural gas supply.
