In a fierce gale officers of the First regiment sheltered in General John Wiley’s tent when a bolt struck a tent pole and caused the front to collapse. Colonel Good, pinned beneath canvas, escaped with minor injuries as crews freed him after an hour. Numerous tents were ripped from frames and the camp suffered widespread damage as the storm roared from the west with intense lightning.
