First Woman Finishes Trans-Pacific Odyssey Alone
Sharon Sites, a 34 year old Los Angeles widow, completed a 2300 mile solo sail from California to Hawaii in 40 days becoming the first woman to finish the voyage. She sustained a broken right wrist and lost a pet turtle en route while weathering six days of 65 mph winds aboard her 25 foot sloop Sea Sharp.
