AP dispatches report that Feature Sports presides Bill Fugazy said Los Angeles would host the third Patterson Johansson heavyweight title bout with November first as the probable date. Fugazy travels to Sweden to confer with Johansson on the plans.
Vice President Richard Nixon plans the most intensive nationwide campaign ever for a presidential bid. Sen. Hugh Scott says Nixon will begin major speeches in August and September after the Republican convention, with no clear TV debate plans against Kennedy and possibilities for running mates including Rockefeller Morton and Lodge.
In Greenville Washington area whites and Negroes traded punches after lunch counter demonstrations in two downtown stores. Three white youths Bobby Sims Dean Willis and Dennis Nevis were arrested for disorderly conduct with bonds posted. Nevis also faced a knife weapon charge. Sit ins at S H Kress and W T Grant preceded the melee as police estimated about 38 people involved in the incident.
LOS ANGELES AP The state launches its case against Dr. R Bernard Finch and Carole Tregoff today for the second time. Jury alternates were selected Thursday and the prosecution announced it would go ahead with its opening statement. The 42 year old surgeon and his 23 year old sweetheart are accused of murdering his wife last July. Their first trial ended in a hung jury.

Secretary of State Christian Herter announced a new policy of calling the Soviet Union’s bluff whenever Kremlin leaders threaten actions they won’t undertake. He accused Moscow of bluffing its intent to stamp out Western imperialism in the Congo and said the United States will push full moral and material support to UN efforts to end the violence despite Soviet warnings.
President Eisenhower called for resumption of disarmament talks to curb the arms race and press for an early meeting of all 82 United Nations members. He instructed Ambassador Lodge to seek a speedy revival of negotiations after the Soviet withdrawal from Geneva talks.
The Soviet Union goes before the UN Security Council to accuse U S spy planes of violating Soviet borders. President Eisenhower vows a strong U S response as Vasily Kuznetsov delivers a lengthy speech demanding condemnation of American aggressors. The dispute centers on the July 1 downing of a U S RB-47 jet over Barents Sea, with Moscow claiming espionage, and Washington arguing the plane was mapping magnetic lines in Arctic waters.

European diplomats debate Herter’s view that Cuba is not unhappy with the Soviet pledge to defend the island if the U S attacks. The AP report notes living costs rose to a new high, with the consumer price index at 126.5, driven by food and gasoline. United Nations Security Council issued a second demand in nine days for Belgian troops to withdraw from the Congo and yield to the new U N military force. The Soviet Union dropped a three day deadline attempt and backed a resolution urging rapid Belgian withdrawal. Belgian Foreign Minister Pierre Vigny noted phased withdrawal from Leopoldville has begun and stressed Congo unity under Belgian law.
A sharp rise in polio cases was reported with 95 total and 69 paralytic cases for the week. Through July 1, 457 paralytic cases this year vs 969 in 1959. Rhode Island leads with 47 paralytic cases this year, concentrated in Providence and Pawtucket. California and South Carolina each added 12 last week, California reporting one polio death and 34 paralytic cases year to date.
Harrisburg AP The State Board of Pharmacy proposed new regulations to tighten hospital pharmacy practices. The rules would bar dispensing substitute drugs without physician consent and prevent staff patients from being charged for drugs at the hospital pharmacy. Board secretary Sol Turnoff said many hospital pharmacies are using substitutes despite bans. The plan comes ahead of a public hearing set for Aug 31 amid hospital opposition.
