President Roosevelt urged industry and business to restore purchasing power through a general wage increase and a 40 cent minimum wage with a 35 hour week for many workers. The plan, drawn by Hugh Johnson, seeks equitable pay and child labor limits while limiting price increases to cover costs.
Peltsburgh report says former Mayor Charles H. Kline of Finsburgh, who resigned after a misconduct conviction related to city supply purchases, was taken to St. Praagus Hospital with what first reports indicate may be a stroke. Police and hospital lines were temporarily closed to confirm his condition.
At Sensenich Dam near Irwin Pennsylvania a frightened boy 10 fled with a pair of shoes. Daniel Zorn 5 grabbed the boy's arm, pulled him from the water and Skippy Mitchell 2 saved by first aid and regained consciousness. The incident occurred yesterday and underscores quick action by a bystander. Later at Delhi Inn Ray Good and his Orchestra entertained Saturday night with a 35 cent cover charge per couple.
Dr. F. K. Kruger, political science professor at Wittenberg College, Springfield, Ohio, will address a special convocation of the faculty and students of Indiana State Teachers College on Monday, July 24. Kruger has served on the Springfield faculty since 1928, with prior service during 1927-1928.
New York July 21 INS Bulls backed the stock market as a wave of selling from speculative-collapsed accounts swept in. A strong earthquake in the region near Ichivyal, Istanbul province, killed at least 20 people and injured about 10. Rescue teams pulled bodies and survivors from collapsed houses as aftershocks continued and residents sought refuge in open fields.
Tennessee voters narrowly approved repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment making it the nineteenth state to back national prohibition repeal. With 886 precincts left, total stood For repeal 120,290 against 110,456. Eastern counties showed early anti repeal strength while Memphis shifted to a repeal majority, Shelby County delivering a 30,000 edge.
Treasury balance as of July 10 shows 848,044,205.74 dollars with receipts and customs revenues listed. The report notes additional figures including individual line items such as M. TR totals and miscellaneous receipts totaling over two and a half million dollars.

In Pottsville on July 21 Franklin Heim of Berwigsburg, employed by a local veterinarian, attempted to save a dying pig. As the pig neared death it bit the man’s thumb and severed the knuckle, creating a sensational scene for local observers.
Retention of Maj. Gen. Mriant Wells as head of the Hawaiian department of the U S Army for another year fuels rumors that Wells may become Hawaii's next governor. His term would have expired this year, and he is thought to be being held over to establish the residence requirement for appointment.
The White House issued blanket code provisions not singled out to newspapers but allows any employer group including newspapers to submit a code. Brig Gen Hugh Johnson said codes apply to professionals beyond plants and newspapers will receive codes to decide on adoption. He expects newspapermen to work as before and extended the code to include engineers while leaving open if newsroom staff qualify as professionals.
Thaddeus Stevens, a colored man from Slickville, told Greensburg court he struck his wife Ilizabeth on the impulse after a domestic dispute. Judge C B Whitten ordered Stevens to pay costs and a fine of six and a fourth cents.

State police maintained order as clashes broke out between strikers and strike breakers in a Lansdale area mill district injuring about a hundred people. About 150 armed workers clashed with 2,000 protesters as workers won a 25 percent pay raise and a 40 hour week, while Gov. Pinchot brokered an agreement to remove deputies from near mills and uphold citizens rights.

The Marion Center Coal Company has booked orders that will greatly increase output and provide employment for about two dozen men for an indefinite period. A dozen men were booked for work this week and similarly many will be added as operations expand to meet the demand.
Elliott Roosevelt son of the President plans to marry Ruth Googins of Fort Worth Texas in Burlington Iowa at the home of her uncle George C Swiler in a quiet ceremony planned for tomorrow. The International News Service reported the engagement and wedding plans emerging today.
The Marion Center school board elected two teachers for the coming term from about twenty applicants. Mrs. Samuel Raybuck of Marion Center and Mrs. Jane Miller of Sagamore were chosen. Last year three teachers were employed, but only two will be hired this year. A separate notice says Workmen's Federation of Indiana County circulates a petition to dismiss the relief board, claiming support from the White Township Tax Justice League, which officers deny.

Mechanics from Fairbanks rushed to assist after a river dredge worker aided at the landing.
Three of the five Americans imprisoned in Palma Majorca were released on bail of 10 pesetas each after more than six weeks’ confinement. The group includes Clinton B. Lockwood of Springfield Mass, Edmund Gett of Stamford Conn, and Oxick F. Mead of New York. The release followed intervention by U.S. Ambassador Claude G. Bowers to Premier Manuel Azana. Lockwood’s wife and Rubherti Fullerton of Columbus Ohio were noted in the report.

Harrisburg reports mechanical defects in autos caused more accidents in June than in any of the past two years. The department release notes 12 killed and 33 injured, with 613 cars affected and damages totaling $55,700 in these incidents.
