July 1 potato estimates show a national production of about 451 million bushels last year with a current projection near 381 million, including regional declines in Virginia New Jersey and Pennsylvania offset by Maine gains. Hay wheat rye and oats conditions are reported as below normal in parts with expected yields ranging to 1.18 tons per acre for hay and 17.8 bushels for Wheat, 16.3 for rye, and 30.6 for oats per acre.

Too Much Law Making by Chief Justice Marshall

Chief Justice Marshall of the Ohio Supreme Court urged adoption of uniform code systems to cut the proliferation of statutes. He argued the U S has enacted far more laws than the rest of the world in 6 000 years and cited the Golden Rule Ten Commandments and Constitution as examples of concise law. He blamed courts and noted last year saw over 175000 pages of law by courts of last resort, unreadable in three years.
