July 19 residents of Clearfield reported a disastrous fire at Woodland six miles east. Fire apparatus failed to operate and aid arrived by special train from Clearfield. The blaze started with fireworks. Principal losers include Alexander Dugan J M Palmer A Powell A E Woolridge. Loss estimated at $50 000.
In Blairsville Pennsylvania on July 19 an 80 year old Indiana man J E Byrne was injured while trying to jump onto a moving freight near Avonmore. He fell to the tracks and was removed by the train crew who sought medical aid before he suddenly leaped from the moving car and vanished into the woods. A crude garlic remedy for wasp stings is described as easing swelling and pain per Professor Mermod of Laurianne.
