Lawmakers cut per diem and boost various education funds

The Appropriations Committee trimmed per diem to 50 dollars, while the Judiciary had proposed 75 and the Senate settled at 50. The House approved 40.2 million for Indiana University and 13 state colleges for a faculty pay increase, sending it to the Senate, which allocated 35.7 million in its 1.29 billion general bill. The House added 1.6 million for faculty raises within 4.5 million extra funds and sent other general appropriations to the Senate, which delayed action. The Appropriations Committee also recommended 4.1 million for State Police, 151,000 of which funds 250 troopers. A tax shift would send fuel revenue from motorboats to the Fish Commission for waterway upgrades, not highways. The committee rereported 5.2 million to Health with 250,000 for Clean Streams Act enforcement.
