Six Killed by Maniac Buried Under Asylum Inquest
Six skeletons found beneath the house of Eugene Butler southeast of Niagara North Carolina reveal murders while Butler was insane. Victims, farm laborers aged adults and a boy fifteen to eighteen, were struck on the head with skulls crushed. Butler, a recluse, went insane in 1906 and died in the Jamestown asylum in 1913. Officials theorize the victims thought to be plotting to seize his money. Bodies lay side by side under the house with an opening in the floor for dropping them. Murders likely occurred over four to five years before his commitment.
