A Akron bus left with a woman seeking to alight near her home while the driver refused, saying passengers could only disembark at the terminal. When the driver turned away authorities allege the bus hit the street car. Motorman L Newman and conductor Samuel Wilden were released after police questioning.
Thaw collection auction drew over 1000 people as bidding opened on cherished home furnishings. Auctioneer W S Reed saw cautious bidding with items like a $6500 skating coat selling for $64 and silverware offered at $7.50. Experts would appraise major pieces as prices rose for the final lots.
A cost ascertainment report on 1928 postal figures found only first class mail yielded profit. The study showed that handling franked or penalty mail cost nearly one and a half cents per piece, an insignificant deficit in the vast annual business.

At 7 o clock last night a movie magnate underwent a blood transfusion after severe head lacerations. Naish and Gerard R. Court offered to donate blood. the operation lasted about thirty minutes. The patient remained calm and cheerful, joking with the doctor, and declared that he needed that. Dr Wilford Post performed the transfusion, noting it was a precautionary measure rather than an emergency. Elvin N. Edwards, District Attorney.

Officials raided a Catholic convent in Los Angeles on July 18 without a search warrant. Church leaders protested to the district attorney, who apologized, had the door paid for, and ordered future raids only with warrants.
London July 17 In a conference on imperialism Benjamin Clarke Marsh executive secretary of the People's Lobby in Washington D C assailed the United States financial policy as world domination. He called American investors looters of foreign resources and accused President Hoover and officials of serving corporate interests. He said the Monroe Doctrine was designed to exploit Central and South America.
