Costs 12.3 Cents To Register A Voter In Indiana County
Indiana County commissioners released a tabulation showing 12.3 cents per registered voter for the 1992 election work, with an average of 87 voters registered daily per assessor and a countywide average salary of $44.20 per assessor. The Glen Campbell Borough official, aged 78 at the time, registered the most voters daily at 3 cents per registration. Buffington Township No 3 recorded the highest cost at 43 cents per vote, with 11 registrations daily. Assessors were paid $5 per day by act of the Pennsylvania legislature. Several districts were omitted as their records remained sealed in ballot boxes awaiting court orders to open.

William G Beatty 49, a Loyalhanna township farmer, died in Westmoreland Hospital from a puncture wound after a mowing accident. Hold Escaped One In Murders At Okia City
A charge of murder was lodged against a youthful vagrant after the death of a law student and an injury to a second victim during a chase. The student, Lawrence Johnson Jr., 24, worked as a letter carrier for the summer and died in hospital. The second victim, Johnson Jr., 26, a mall clerk, was shot in the heart and remained in critical condition. The suspect, named Amith, is believed to have prior links to a state reform school.
