New American Women’s Club Opens in London
London July 17 American women resident in London and visitors now have a palatial club in Grosvenor Square. Formerly Sir Walter Speyer’s residence the property was bought for 100000 dollars and opened by Mrs. Post Wheeler. Membership runs between five and six thousand with large associate memberships for English wives of American citizens. Lady Astor spoke hoping the club becomes a center of political agitation yet mainly aims to keep American women connected with their homeland through social events. The luxurious premises feature a Wue marble bath room ornate rooms transplanted from Venice and a grand Regent period ballroom with minstrels gallery.
