William Bracken 60 of Marion Center RD 3 is held in the county jail after a morning shooting on a nearby farm near Dix Onville. A bullet from a woods across a hollow struck a horse hitched to a hay rake, fatally injuring the animal. Bracken allegedly aimed at farmer John Best 50, who was raking hay, as part of a feud linked to Bracken’s son’s deer hunting without a license. A rifle found in Bracken’s home matched the bullet, and Bracken admitted hunting groundhogs. Best was not present at the time of the 10 30 a m event.
