In a northern county paper a sensational claim says condemned men Joe Veltre and Bruno Carboni spent their last night before execution in a festive mood, dancing on the scaffold to harmonica music. Father Parri, their spiritual advisor, says otherwise, noting he stayed with them and guided their confessions and last rites. He cites constant pastoral visits and a final communion at 4 am followed by a church service, asserting the men faced death with faith.
