Continued from page one, 35000 veterans return, with 20000 to settle at home this month. U S 8th, 5th and 12th Air Forces move toward the Pacific. Many bombers survive raids over Germany and are loaded for Japan. Naval air-sea rescue remains secret. Brazil, Britain, and American ships participate. Two evacuation routes shown: northern via British Isles to Azores or Newfoundland, southern from Marseilles through Africa, to Natal and Brazil then Caribbean to the United States.

Rowley Cemetery lot owners are asked to donate a day of work this Saturday July 14 1945. Each owner should be present or send a representative with tools such as scythes forks wagons mattocks and shovels. The committee hopes summer cooperation will enable one caretaker to tend the cemetery next year.
Marine Corps dispatch from Okinawa says the Oroku Peninsula campaign ended in a swift, complete enemy collapse. Maj. Gen. Lemuel Shepherd’s Sixth Marine Division closed in from three sides near Tomigulesu Village, taking 160 plus prisoners as Japanese forces surrendered or died in caves and bunkers.
President Truman will travel aboard the USS Augusta to join James Byrnes and Admiral McCain on a high level White House delegation heading to a Big Three meeting. The naval task force includes Captain James Foskett commanding the Augusta and Captain Robert Baker aboard the Philadelphia. The voyage from Newport News aims to cover over 10,000 miles with a large staff and diplomatic aides aboard.
Chinese forces recaptured Sincheng air base in Kiangsi Kanhsien area and advanced north toward another former base at Kanhsien. Nankang on the Kiangsi Kwangtung highway was retaken as Japanese forces fled toward Sincheng. Further gains near Kweilin and Tengyun were reported as Chinese troops push toward Wuchow and Canton, with strategic movements along the border.

Pfc. Alex Olechoveski of Indiana recently completed a 30 day sick leave with his wife Dorothy and his parents Mr and Mrs John Olechoveski of Josephine. He now returns to Camp Butner Hospital after a December 1944 hospital stay for trench foot. He served with the 100th Division Seventh Army in France and Germany, entered service April 1943, trained at Camp Wheeler Ft Jackson and Ft Bragg, went overseas in October 1944, and wears the European Theater Ribbon with two battle stars and the Good Conduct badge.

Washington July 11 A House judiciary subcommittee probes the Williamsport Wire Rope receivership to learn how former Federal Judge Albert W Johnson oversaw it during its six years. Evidence shows his son in law Carl Schug received 1000 monthly fees, with Bethlehem Steel seeking other receivers including Ballard and Gilmore, and Oliver Decker later as counsel. Johnson resigned last week. he draws a 10000 annual pension.
NEW YORK July 11 The American Navy, the largest in history, has 38 line admirals under 50, about one in seven, reflecting a drop in average age since the war began. Fleet Admirals Leahy King Nimitz are 70, 66, and 60 respectively, while the average for full admirals is 63.6. In the Pacific, younger leaders like Nimitz, Kittaid, Spruance, Ingersoll, and Halsey stand out, illustrating rapid promotion amid the war effort.
A 32 year old hairdresser once of Pittsburgh Helen Caputo was strangled in Rochester New York. Her body was found in a vacant lot with bruises and she had been assaulted. Police seek a man in a Marine uniform and two other women reported similar attacks in the same area.
Harrisburg July W-14 The new Pennsylvania committee for permanent FEPC urges Congress to restore full federal enforcement and to set up a permanent federal agency on fair employment practices. Michael Johnson says PA members of Congress should sign a petition to push a state FEPC bill via a special legislative session call. Proceeds from a 1943 legislative session still support journalism scholarships at Indiana University in memory of Ernie Pyle.

In Pittsburgh the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers said a National War Labor Board review of a July 3 Philadelphia wage award for about 1000 Penelec workers may be granted. The dispute centers on raising the rate from 1.40 to 1.15 while a 1943 agreement had set 1.18. Retroactive pay totaling nearly 250000 is planned pending action. The union has put a strike vote in abeyance. Penelec serves 166000 homes and 24000 industrial sites across 17 counties including one in Maryland.
Washington July 11 Authorities consider sugar relief ideas for soft drink makers. Rep Flaad proposes summer use of sugar quotas for bottlers, a four month summer quota, a winter holiday, and seasonal quota swaps between northern and southern bottlers.
